NYC Veterans Invited to Join New Summer Pickleball League
Veterans across New York City are invited to serve, sweat, and socialize in the new NYC Veteran Pickleball League—a biweekly summer series designed exclusively for veterans to stay active, build community, and strengthen peer-to-peer support through America’s fastest-growing sport.
The league kicks off on Friday, June 6, from 5–7 pm at Wollman Rink in Central Park, and continues biweekly throughout the summer at the same time and location.
Led by Fordham University’s Office of Military and Veterans’ Services (OMVS)—in collaboration with Hostos Community College and the University of Mount Saint Vincent—the NYC Veteran Pickleball League is funded by the NYC Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) through the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program. This program supports socialization and peer engagement opportunities that promote connection, well-being, and a sense of purpose among veterans and their families.
“This league is more than just a game—it’s a welcoming space for veterans to connect, recharge, and support one another,” said Matt Butler, executive director of Fordham OMVS. “Through shared activity and community, we’re helping veterans build relationships that can last long after the final serve.”
No experience is necessary—equipment is provided, and each session includes beginner-friendly instruction, open play, and time to unwind with fellow veterans over food and conversation.
Advance registration is required to ensure court space, equipment, and food.
For questions or group sign-ups, please contact Fordham’s Veteran Center at (212) 636-6433 or veterans@fordham.edu.
