Fordham Presents “HEROES,” a Veteran Art Exhibition, Panel Discussion at Lincoln Center

The Fordham University Office of Military and Veterans’ Services is proud to present HEROES, an exhibition of original works by participants in the Fordham Veterans Workshop. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:45 pm at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus, in the Lipani Gallery at 113 West 60th Street and Columbus Avenue.

HEROES features powerful visual and written works from veterans of all eras and branches of service, offering a compelling glimpse into military life, transition, and healing through creativity. Since its founding in 2017, the Fordham Veterans Workshop, led by artist Steve Alpert, has served as a space for veterans, regardless of their academic affiliation, to explore their experiences through art, storytelling, and community.

“Steve’s workshops help veterans explore and express their emotions through art, while fostering meaningful connections among veterans from different eras, conflicts, and experiences,” said Matt Butler, Fordham’s Office of Military and Veterans’ Service executive director. “At the core of this work is the veterans and their art. We’re honored to host this program as part of our ongoing commitment to support those who have served.”

The evening will begin with an open gallery viewing and reception at 5:00 pm, followed by a panel discussion with featured veteran artists at 6:30 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from the creators about their work, service, and creative expression’s role in building community and resilience. The event will conclude at 7:45 pm.

“All artists make art to discover the truth about themselves—we have stories to tell,” Alpert said. “Over the past eight years, the Fordham veterans workshop has become a community and safehaven for sharing deeply personal art. It’s my job to encourage each artist to dig deep and create something truly original. After years on Zoom due to Covid, I’m especially excited for this exhibition—because we’ll finally be together in person, sharing our work with the world.”

Admission is free and open to the public. Registration is requested here.
